Talib Kweli is finishing work on his latest solo record on Blacksmith / EMI.  He has been utilizing many of Rough Magic’s string and horn players for his sessions.  The album is due out in November.

 

Jean Grae Releases Cookies Or Comas

Jean Grae released her Cookies or Comas mixtape today.  Much of this work was tracked at Rough Magic and engineered by Alby Cohen.  He also mixed 4 tracks on the project.

 

Idle Warship (Talib Kweli and Res) have been finishing tracking for their upcoming album due out in September.

Interscope / Def Jam recording artist Wax has been in the studio writing and tracking for his upcoming album.  Rough Magic friends and close associates Fyre Dept, the production duo of Eric Krasno and Adam Deitch are producing a number of tracks as well.

 

Alby Cohen has been tapped to mix 4 songs on Jean Grae’s upcoming Cake Or Death, her long awaited album to be released on EMI’s label. He also tracked much of Jean’s vocals on this album.

The Kobolds Release EP II

Rough Magic clients The Kobolds released their sophmore effort EP II today.  The 5 song EP was tracked, mixed and mastered at Rough Magic Studios.  It was produced and engineered by Alby Cohen and mixed and mastered by R.E. Thuggz.  Alby and the Kodolds used some amazing session musicians for strings (Meredith Mitchell, Erika Smith), Horns (Lakecia Benjamin, Maurice Brown, Mark Williams, and Chelsea Baratz) and Keys and  Synths (Borahm Lee and Arina Ayzen).

The Lesser Ghost Drops their debut EP tomorrow.  Alby Cohen recorded most of the instruments here at Rough Magic over Memorial Day Weekend 2010.

 

Pharoahe Monch has released his long awaited album W.A.R. in stores everywhere today.  Rough Magic had the pleasure of tracking the song Illusion which featured Citizen Cope on the hook and Jean Grae on backing vocals.  Also on backing vocals was the engineer on the session, Alby Cohen.

 

R.E. Thuggz (Ari Raskin) Has been doing some mixing at Rough Magic Including some work with Adam Deitch, Jean Grae and The Kobolds. In addition, Sonic Scoop did a recent write up on Ari and he gave us a shout out.

Talib Kweli Releases Gutter Rainbows

Talib Kweli released Gutter Rainbows internationally today.  It features many friends of Rough Magic including Nigel Hall, Jean Grae and Maurice Brown.  The album features many tracks that were recorded at Rough Magic Studios by Alby Cohen and a few tracks that were mixed by Mike Gibney.

 

Break Science released their First EP on Pretty Light’s record Label.  Further Than Our Eyes Can See is a groundbreaking foray into the marriage of Dance / Electonica and hard Hip Hop beats.  Longtime Rough Magic Friends Borahm Lee and Adam Deitch have outdone themselves. Thomas Bryan Eaton released his newest project, the When Your Dancing EP today.  Much of the EP was tracked at Rough Magic along with some additional Mixing  and its available on Bandcamp by clicking the link above.
