Management / Staff
After being frustrated with the lack of quality music studio spaces in Brooklyn, Doug opened Rough Magic in 2003 with good friend Louie Ames. The goal was to build a working compound to facilitate art and to provide a fulfilling, comfortable and creative environment for playing and recording music.
Joe Moose Demby- Studio Manager
Moose recently joined Rough Magic Studios as a full-time studio manager and the studio is lucky to have him. Moose was the manager of the world-famous Chung King Studios in Manhattan for four four years before it finally closed it’s doors in 2009. If you have any questions regarding scheduling, rates or J Dilla’s “Donuts”, he is the one to speak to.

Alby – Chief Engineer
Alby is Rough Magic’s house engineer. He is a budding producer with a growing list of credits to his name. A drummer with over 15 years experience, Alby has a knack for songwriting, arrangement and production in addition to being a well-qualified Protools engineer. His client list includes Talib Kweli, Boveda, Pharoahe Monch, Blake Ian, Jean Grae, Bow Wow, Soulive, The Slip, Sonya Kitchell, Wakey Wakey, Food Will Win the War, In the Lighthouse, Dr. Klaw, Sadat X, and others.

Chris Pummill comes to Rough Magic via CRAS. He quickly has become our shining star and has made Brooklyn his home while dissecting the frequencies that surround him.
